I’ll be posting a ton of juice and smoothie recipes because they offer so many health benefits as they are loaded with nutrients and are an easier way to consume your daily intake of fruits and veggies. After my diagnosis I made drastic changes to my diet (I will get into further detail about these changes in later posts) and eliminated meat and refined sugars completely, so juices and smoothies became a fundamental part of my daily diet. I truly believe that the consumption of these juices and smoothies has played a drastic role in keeping me alive and healthy.
There are infinite possibilities when creating smoothies and depending on the ingredients you use, differing nutritional goals can be achieved. This Green Tropics Smoothie is a simple smoothie to make loaded with nutrients and disease fighting properties… and it tastes great! Here are the ingredients I used to create this smoothie along with their nutritional benefits:
Organic Unsweetened Cashew Milk: A good source of vitamins and minerals, containing magnesium, zinc, copper, iron, folate, vitamin E, B vitamins, and some calcium. The goodness in cashews can help maintain heart health, protect against high blood pressure, and can also help with fatigue, headaches, muscle soreness and spasms. Cashews can also help to support healthy bones, teeth and muscles while helping the body utilize iron and eliminate free radicals.
Organic Banana: Contains vitamin B6 and magnesium which help promote better sleep. They also contain fiber, vitamin C, potassium, and vitamin A. They promote good digestion, prevent constipation, and contribute to healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
Raw Organic Sunflower Seeds: Provide ample amounts of protein-building amino acids, along with magnesium, potassium, zinc and Vitamin E. They are a good source of selenium, which is a proven enemy of cancer. They are said to be one of the most nutritional foods you can eat.
Organic Kale & Chard: These leafy greens are a great sources of amino acids (protein), calcium, vitamin A, vitamin K, iron, manganese, magnesium, zinc, folate and selenium. They both provide important antioxidants, are great for boosting the immune system and for creating beautiful skin.
Organic Mango: An excellent source of dietary fiber and vitamin B6, as well as a good source of vitamin A and vitamin C. Mangos are rich in minerals like potassium, magnesium, copper, and antioxidants which have the power to neutralize free radicals throughout the body which are known to cause ailments like heart disease, premature aging, cancer and other degenerative diseases.
Organic Turmeric Powder: Very high in antioxidants, and has great anti-cancer properties. It is also an anti-inflammatory agent and works as a blood cleanser.
Directions: Blend the following amounts of the above listed ingredients in a VitaMix or blender and your Green Tropics Smoothie is ready to be served. This recipe will make 2 servings:
2 cups of organic unsweetened cashew milk
1/2 organic banana (fresh or frozen)
1/2 cup of raw organic sunflower seeds
1 – 2 cups of organic kale and chard mix
1/2 ripe organic mango
1 teaspoon or organic turmeric powder (may use fresh)
Enjoy!
