Hands down one of the most amazing stories I have ever read! This book is a beautiful story of survival and is an absolute must-read for anyone and everyone. No matter what you may be going through, whether it be an illness or personal challenge, Left To Tell: Discovering God Amidst the Rwandan Holocaust by Immaculée Ilibagiza, will leave you feeling like you can conquer or overcome just about anything through faith, love and forgiveness. Immaculée (what a beautiful name) shares her story of unspeakable horror, portraying some of the most heinous brutality in the world, yet her story is amazingly uplifting as she teaches us how through her faith in God she was able to survive and thrive.
For 91 days, she and seven other women huddled silently together in the cramped bathroom of a local pastor’s home while hundreds of machete-wielding killers hunted for them. During those endless hours of unspeakable terror, Immaculée discovered the power of prayer, eventually shedding her fear of death and forging a profound and lasting relationship with God. She emerged from the bathroom hideout having discovered the meaning of true unconditional love – a love so strong she was able seek out and forgive her family’s killers. Her journey through the darkness of the genocide will inspire anyone whose life has been touched by fear, suffering and loss.
A friend sent me this book in hopes of inspiring me, and I finished reading it in two sittings because I was that captivated. I have since ordered a couple of extra copies to give to people as I see fit.. when I encounter people who are really in need of some inspiration and hope.
I also read somewhere in the afterword of the book that Immaculée currently travels all over the world as a motivational speaker so I have added attending one of her appearances to my ever-growing bucket list. When I learn some more info about these appearances and dates, I will post on the blog… But for now, do yourself a favor and get inspired!
