If you know me then you know I’m always looking for a new outdoor adventure. I absolutely love hiking, partly because I’m not a huge fan of working out in a gym around a bunch of sweaty ego maniacs lol, but more so because I feel closer to God when I’m surrounded by His creation. It’s great exercise and a sure stress reliever. Anytime I’m feeling overwhelmed or stressed, you can find me on a hike. It’s impossible to be in nature and be in a bad mood at the same time.
This past week, my cousin Thea and I went on this awesome hike in the Malibu Mountains at Malibu Creek State Park off of Las Virgenes and Mulholland Dr (if you’re in the LA area). It was absolutely calming and serene. The landscape was beautiful, although being that it’s the start of Summer, a lot of the landscape is pretty dry this time of year… but there were still hints of color left from Spring. I love love love mustard seed flowers and its everywhere in the Malibu Mountains! This flower is so special to me because it is a reminder of “mustard seed faith.” Biblical scripture says that with faith the size of a mustard seed, we can do the impossible (Matthew 17:10). Being surrounded by this flower I can’t help but be reminded of this promise.
There are a couple of different trails to choose from and the hikes are pretty easy for the most part, very little incline. One trail in particular leads to a beautiful rock pool. Once we arrived there, other hikers were swimming and jumping off of the rocks. My cousin jumped in without hesitation and me on the other hand…maybe next time :/ or maybe not. Ha! Apparently TV shows and movies have been filmed here because it’s such a lovely setting. This photo doesn’t do much justice, but it really is a gorgeous spot. Check it out if you live in the area…doesn’t even seem like you’re in L.A…. a great escape from the everyday hustle n bustle.
On our return hike from the pools, Thea captured this shot of me walking through a big open field. I love this picture because the landscape and sky are both so beautiful and I feel like I’m standing in the presence of God. Such a great feeling.
Next time you’re feeling down or stressed, or just want to get some great exercise, take a hike! Keep close to Nature’s heart and everything will feel better.
