Fancy for Life Annual Fashion Show benefiting Cancer Awareness

in Life, Resources and Support on 10/24/15

This past Thursday, October 22nd, our October Earth Angel Liz Luque hosted her annual fashion show, Fancy for Life at Downtown Los Angeles’s Fuego Lounge with it’s stunning ambiance and striking rooftop views.  I was scheduled to host the show alongside comedian Antonio Ramos but unfortunately had to cancel as I wasn’t feeling well.  Marketing professional and event coordinator Sweeney Mae came to the rescue and together they did an exceptional job showcasing Liz’s 2016 swim collection titled 15 Shades of Pink.

Being that it is still October and Breast Cancer Awareness month, Liz choose different shades of pink to design her suits in honor of those fighting breast cancer.  Each suit was named after someone affected by cancer and as the beautiful models graced the runway, stories of inspiration and triumph were shared by the hosts.  As a grand finale, special guest Jossie Ochoa debuted her swim suit design collaboration with Fancy Swimwear.

Most notable however, all models wore caps to honor women who have experienced hair loss during treatment, temporarily losing a piece of their identity.  If you haven’t read Liz’s story on the site, I encourage you to do so as it one anyone can draw inspiration from, it is truly miraculous.  Liz is a 2 time cancer survivor and swimwear designer who has created a line called Fancy Caps, a line of caps made of breathable swimwear material for cancer patients to wear while undergoing treatment.  They can also be worn as a fashion accessory as they are super stylish and fashion forward.  Liz was inspired to make the caps remembering the discomfort she felt undergoing her own treatment.  She wore hats/beanies to conceal her baldness but they were either really hot or uncomfortable.  Fancy Caps are quite the opposite.  They are cool, comfortable and the bright colors are inviting and cheerful.

All proceeds from the evening are going to the production of Fancy Caps to be made to distribute to cancer patients in the hospitals for the holidays.  Liz frequents cancer hospitals, personally delivering the caps to both children and adults and hopes that by raising enough funds, her efforts can reach people affected by cancer globally.  If you are interested in donating to this impressive and impactful cause, you can do so by clicking here.  Liz has created a Go Fund Me page to continue collecting donations.

Caps off to Liz and her amazing team for putting together such an beautiful show for an amazing cause.  This is what you call fashion with a purpose!  Keep inspiring Liz!
