For years I have been on the hunt for organizations that are tailored to the unique challenges that young women are faced with when they are diagnosed with cancer early in life. I wasn’t able to find many at all actually, until recently. A friend told me about an organization called 5 Under Forty and wow, are they awesome! All 5 founders of the organization were diagnosed with breast cancer under the age of 40. These beautiful and triumphant women came together and formed a foundation for the purpose of uniting women under 40 at different stages of detection, treatment and survival. “Our goal is to provide access to the vital tools and resources necessary for early detection, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. We are committed to support women under the age of forty through every stage of this disease by empowering lives, helping preserve beauty and vitality, fostering hope, and strengthening survivorship.”
Through their foundation they are able to provide medical, wellness and beauty services to young women with breast cancer. The following are just some examples of the services they provide to women under 40 with breast cancer:
- Breast MRI
- 3D Nipple Tattoo
- Breast Sonogram
- Mental Health Counseling
- Physical Therapy Sessions
- Personal Training Sessions
- Private Yoga Sessions
- Nutrition Counseling
- Human Hair Wig
- Extensions Post Treatment
- Makeup Lesson (with eyebrow and eyelash application)
How amazing right?! On their Instagram account, I most recently watched a clip of a young woman receiving her custom wig, provided by the foundation, and it literally brought tears to my eyes. She was beautiful without the wig but the obvious joy it brought to her was beyond heart warming. In addition, the 5 Under Forty site provides a surplus of info relative to the issues that young women going through breast cancer will find super resourceful and informative. Last week, I had the honor of sharing my story on their blog which can be read here.
I’m so grateful to have found this amazing group of ladies and I look forward to meeting them in person soon. I hope their services and site provide you with the support that it has for me.
